Mary is a seasoned clinician who works with
couples, individuals, families, adolescents and school age children. She has
been the owner of Linganore Counseling and Wellness, LLC for six years and has
practiced in New Market for ten years. Mary has over twenty-five years experience in
the mental health profession.
Mary has a strong background in, and is a proponent of solution focused and
strategic therapy, but utilizes a variety of approaches in her work. Mary
believes in tailoring her approach to the client’s individual situation and
personality. She strongly believes in utilizing client strengths and unique
abilities to resolve issues.
Mary has solid experience with a large variety of issues but her major strength
is relationship building and conflict resolution. Couples and families create
their own dynamics which can be beneficial or problematic. Understanding these
dynamics can be a powerful healing and strengthening tool. Mary also welcomes
individuals who come to therapy. She has learned that individuals suffering from
anxiety and depression are often on the brink of discovering information about
themselves and taking needed steps that could positively transform their lives.
Prior to establishing her private practice, Mary worked six years as an Employee
Assistance Professional, serving firefighters, police officers, government and
private industry employees. During this period she also conducted critical
incident debriefings, employee trainings and substance abuse assessments. Past
experience also includes six years of case management and advocacy for the
seriously mentally ill population and five years experience in child protective
services.
Mary became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Virginia in 1997.
She became a nationally Certified Employee Assistance Professional in 1999 and
was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in the State of Maryland in 2000. She
received her Master of Social Work Degree in 1990 from Virginia Commonwealth
University, and her Bachelor of Social Work Degree in 1976 from East Tennessee
State University.
