
Mary is a seasoned clinician who works with couples, individuals, families, adolescents and school age children. She has practiced in New Market for five years and has over twenty years experience in the mental health profession.
Mary has a strong background in, and is a proponent of solution focused and strategic therapy, but utilizes a variety of approaches in her work. Mary believes in tailoring her approach to the client’s individual situation and personality. She strongly believes in utilizing client strengths and unique abilities to resolve issues.
Mary has solid experience with a large variety of issues but her major strength is relationship building and conflict resolution. Couples and families create their own dynamics which can be beneficial or problematic. Understanding these dynamics can be a powerful healing and strengthening
tool. Mary also welcomes individuals who come to therapy. She has learned that individuals suffering from anxiety and depression are often on the brink of discovering information about themselves and taking needed steps that could positively transform their lives.
Prior to establishing her private practice, Mary worked six years as an Employee Assistance Professional, serving firefighters, police officers, government and private industry employees. During this period she also conducted critical incident debriefings, employee trainings and substance abuse assessments. Past experience also includes six years of case management and advocacy for the seriously mentally ill population and five years experience in child protective services.
Mary became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Virginia in 1997. She became a nationally Certified Employee Assistance Professional in 1999 and was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in the State of Maryland in 2000.
She received her Master of Social Work Degree in 1990 from Virginia Commonwealth University,
and her Bachelor of Social Work Degree in 1976 from East Tennessee State
University.
