Ms. Bannon is a seasoned licensed clinical professional counselor and dance/movement therapist with 20 years experience working with children, adolescents and their families. She specializes in both individual therapy and therapeutic social groups which address attention deficits, learning disabilities, developmental delays and emotional challenges. Ms. Bannon utilizes both verbal and nonverbal interventions to address issues of self-esteem, self-expression, understanding non-verbal cues, boundaries, self-control and appropriate social interaction. Through creative and expressive social experiences, children are given the opportunity to grow more comfortable and confident in their individual and social identity.
Ms. Bannon obtained her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and dance at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY in 1988. In 1991, Ms. Bannon graduated with a Masters degree in Dance/Movement therapy from Goucher College. She took additional graduate classes from Johns Hopkins University in order to obtain her license as a clinical counselor in 2001. Ms. Bannon worked as a Dance/Movement Therapy Supervisor for ten years at the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents. She began private practice work in 1993 in Columbia, MD. In 2001, Ms. Bannon joined the Expressive Therapy Center of Montgomery County and began providing individual, group and family therapy. Currently Ms. Bannon has also joined the Linganore Counseling and Wellness center in New Market, MD. She founded Creative Therapeutic Connections which uses creative forms of expression to address challenges in the home, school and social environment.
